1/3: stray off the subject
jul 2008
for beth gould
I’m happy with this because I was able to sneak some of my favourite songs at the time onto it and still keep the themes (somewhat) intact. It’s about love -- about completeness and incompleteness and never getting anything quite right.

Tried to push/make more complicated my previous efforts with this one, especially in terms of the CD booklet. It's tightly thematic, too, which is maybe why it appears to have taken so long to finish.

After I finished this album I put it on my desk beside Plans and was struck with a glaring plagiaristic cover art conundrum. I don't know what happened, maybe it was one of those sub-conscious things.

I really came up with the concept for this album (which surrounding the idea of preparing food) and the title from one of those free magazines you get at the movies when you're waiting 15 minutes for the show to start.

I think the Akron/Family song "I'll Be On The Water" really set this album into motion, but I nevertheless had a fluid collection of songs about dreams and dreaming for months prior. Oh, Mr. Maps.

Angry music and Donnie Darko just seemed to fit together. I think it was just a natural melange--it just worked so well in the end.

Looking back, I don't know what happened with this album-set. It started off so small in July and grew and grew like puddles do in April and i couldn't stop anymore and then it was the end of August

Working on these albums tediously after each day of work from July to August took me away from a lot of things I would've otherwise dwelled on--I guess it just consumed me in such a way as to pass the time and

Another essay, really. I guess the previous one wasn't so awkwardly or strenuously made that a second one wouldn't be worth the effort.

I figured it wouldn't be so hard. This was before I knew anything about anything. It took many attempts. And 20 songs is too many. Essay to the craft. Happy birthday present crystal.
